From the earliest days of Phil’s Foils we have worked with Corsair and Farrier multihull owners and builders to provide high quality rudders and daggerboards, both to new boat builders and to those who need replacements. We can either build strictly to design drawings, or provide our own custom solutions where asked. Please browse this page as there is a lot of detail here.

Corsair and Farrier F-25 Deep Spade Rudder
A customer came looking for a deeper, higher aspect rudder blade to fit the underslung rudder cassette in his F-25C. The result was a success! Note you do need to increase the bushing size in the cassette to accommodate the larger diameter rudder post.
We can also build to the standard design, or come up with something custom just for you.
Do you need a daggerboard for your F-25C? We’re working on that too.
Price is for rudder blade only. Replacement post quoted separately.

F-27, F-28 Daggerboard
We provide high quality replacement daggerboards for the F-27 and F-28, built to original drawings purchased from Ian Farrier.
We now try to keep one of these standard daggerboards in our inventory to eliminate lead time issues when a replacement is quickly needed.

F-27, F-28 Daggerboard (Modified)
We developed this alternative design for a customer that wasn’t interested in One Design compliance. Five inches deeper than standard, it requires that the trailer allow the daggerboard to project 1″ below the hull. If you have a center cockpit model, we can go even deeper!

“We have noticed a 1.5 knot increase in speed at the top end and improved upwind performance. Also a lighter helm.Tacking is quite precise. I have to use a broom handle to push the board down all the way but it hauls up with ease.No slop in the case either. So I think it is a good solution. Harold”
F-27 Rudder
Need a rudder for your F-27? We can build it to the original specifications.
As a custom solution, we built a Sprint 750 style cassette rudder and cassette for one customer. He had this to say : Finally the weather cooperated and we sailed today for a few hrs this evening. Wind was light max 10 knts apparent and got the boat up to 6.9 knts . No planing but the rudder works beautifully . A light weather helm and finger tip pressure . Don t know if its my imagination but the boat squats less at this speed and the swim step seems higher out of the water. The helm is definitely lighter. Cheers Harold F27 279..

F-28 Deep Kickup Rudder
A customer wanted a deeper kickup rudder to fit his transom-hung F-28. We scaled down the custom design we’d done earlier for the F-31, and it has worked out really well for him. Can we build one for you too?
We can also adapt our Sprint 750 rudder/cassette to work for your F28!

F-9, F-31, F-32, F-33 Lifting Rudder
This rudder blade is the standard design for the F-32 and F-33, and a nice upgrade for the F-9 and F-31. Its also known as the daggerboard-rudder, as it lifts vertically in a cassette similar to the way the daggerboard lifts in its trunk. There are a number of options in materials used, but our preferance is a central beam of red cedar with foam leading and trailing edges and tip. We also supply a lot of these as milled cores to home builders.

F-9, F-31, F-32, F-33 HA Lifting Rudder
We had a customer with an F-33 that wanted a deeper rudder designed in the lifting daggerboard-style, as he was regularily flying a hull while racing in large swells in the South Pacific. We put this custom solution together for him. Wetted area is actually less than the standard lifting design, but the deeper blade puts total loads at the lower gudgeon about the same. While you could sleeve your current cassette to fit the smaller rudder section, we recommend having a new cassette purpose-built.
We consider this a developmental product at this time.

F-9, F-31 Deep Kickup Rudder
This rudder blade works with the Corsair F-31 transom-hung kickup headstock (which some F-9 owners have also converted to). One owner felt that the original F-31 rudder blade was too short for effective control, and had us design something a bit deeper and higher in aspect ratio. He was very pleased with the end result.

F-9, F-31 Daggerboard
Standard construction is a red cedar beam with PVC foam surround, using fiberglass (eglass) skins and carbon unidirectionals. But we’ve also built them with other materials combinations, including 100% carbon laminate.
We now try to keep one of these standard daggerboards in our inventory to eliminate lead time issues when a replacement is quickly needed.

F-9, F-31 Elliptical Daggerboard
We have developed this elliptical alternative to the standard F9 and F31 rectangular daggerboard. Customers should find it develops the required lift to windward with less total drag. This design still retracts fully into the daggerboard trunk.
Our first customer had a high cabin F31, and after measuring had us go even 2 inches deeper.
Please note that due to extended height above deck when retracted, this may impact how you raise your mast on the trailer.

F-32, F-33 Simple Daggerboard
The “Barn Door” rectangular planform daggerboard is the simpler of the two designs for the F-32. Our standard construction is a red cedar beam with foam leading and trailing edges, using carbon skins and carbon unidirectionals.

F-32, F-33, F-35 Elliptical Daggerboard
This is the more efficient elliptical planform daggerboard for the F-32, F-33, and F-35. As we shape our cores on our CNC milling machine, there is really no need to build the simpler rectangular design. Our standard construction is a red cedar beam with foam leading and trailing edges, using carbon skins and carbon unidirectionals.
A couple of things to note: due to increased height above the deck when retracted, this may impact how you raise the mast when on the trailer. The design when adapted to the F-32 has an increased cut down to the aft section of the head compared to the F-35 standard design shown here.
We were pleased to have built the daggerboard that Brian Haynes used when winning his class in the 2004 Around The Island race on his F-33R Carbon Tiger II

Your daggerboard performed very well on our record breaking run from Maui to Oahu this last Labor Day race on my F-33. After our resent haul out, we noticed the board was in excellent condition.

F-82, F-25 Lifting Rudder

Sprint 750 / Dash 750 Rudder
Our replacement rudder blade for the Sprint 750 is, in our opinion, the best shape possible within the box rule created by the class association. And as a bonus, you can either use it with our carbon rudder cassette, or it will drop right in to the factory built aluminum cassette.

I have only good things to say about the rudder…we only cavitated once at the nationals for a split second when the wind piped up unexpectedly and we had raised the board up 5 inches to minimize drag in light air. The other foils seemed to be having more of a struggle. Our blade will also fit in your existing cassette allowing you to skip that cost if you want.
